Migration is deeply woven into Gambian life.
Remittances from Gambians abroad make up a large share of national income,
supporting families with food, school fees, health care, and housing. At the
same time, many young people take dangerous irregular routes, and returnees
often come home with few resources and little support. We work to make
migration safer and more informed, help returnees rebuild their lives, and
channel diaspora energy into local development.
What We Do
●
Informed migration: Share accurate information on the risks of irregular routes and the
options for safe, legal migration, through youth groups, schools, radio, and
community dialogues.
●
Returnee reintegration: Provide counselling, psychosocial support, skills training, and
start-up assistance so returnees can rebuild livelihoods and be welcomed back
into their communities.
●
Diaspora engagement: Connect Gambians abroad with community projects through diaspora
associations, hometown networks, and partnerships that support water, health,
education, and enterprise.
●
Remittances and investment: Promote safe, affordable remittance channels and guide families and
diaspora investors toward productive uses such as farming, housing, and small
business.
●
Skills and knowledge exchange: Encourage diaspora professionals to share expertise through mentoring,
short-term placements, and training in areas such as health, agriculture, and
technology.
We partner with diaspora associations,
returnee networks, community leaders, local government, national migration
agencies, and international organisations. Programmes are shaped by the voices
of migrants, returnees, and their families, and prioritise young people, women,
and the most vulnerable.
Our Goal
Gambians who migrate by choice and with safety,
returnees who are supported and reintegrated, and a diaspora that is a lasting
partner in building strong, resilient communities.
